Linux system monitors

There are plenty of system monitors and task managers on linux. Recently I have been hunting down a possible system monitor such as the Windows Task Manager interface, which allows to see computer resources in a easy and graphical way. Here are some of the applications for linux that I found out.

SysMonTask

The first I have used was SysMonTask, which as the name implies, it’s a system monitor and task manager. The interface is inspired by the Windows counterpart, having similar compactness and usability.

However, not everything is good. It seems that the project has been unmanaged and the last commit to the master branch has been made in december 2021. An open issue from the repository page confirms this, and also asks for alternatives in the conversation from other people. That’s where I found my actual solution :) .

Mission Center

Mission Center is a project hosted in gitlab (first time I use a project from gitlab knowingly) and it brings a modern and thoughtful interface to the Windows-like system monitor.

Detects and shows CPU and GPU temperature sensors

For this application, I chose to download the AppImage available at the releases page, which I then moved to an “applications” folder and linked it in the Cinnamon Menu Editor to be able to launch it from there.
